This is a good opportunity for interaction between the new and old ventures to relive the scouting days. Too we have to pay a small token and the proceeds will go to the cost and the Venture Unit Fund.

There's a training camp soon. Come down to help if you are free.

For more details refer to the ExCo or the following blog.

Here's the new site: Parting Shot frm ur VentureChair...

memories of my Scouting and Venturing life flashes pass me as im typing this....

it does pain me to leave u guys...yet it pains me more to stay....

no one wants to be told the whole entire truth....why??? cos the real truth will hurt much more that the lies.....

this is especially between good frens....it could easily ruin friendships...

but the time of my parting with the Venture EXCO has come...i shall no longer feed u guys the lies ive been feeding u anymore...its time to come clean....

like i said before the entire EXCO lacks situation awareness....
(i.e. Shing Chen/Michael/Jia Rui)
meaning do keep yourself updated on what is going on how things are progressing with all the EXCO members even if u are not partaking in it.....

furthermore there is a lack of an alpha-personality guy within the unit......this person DO NOT have to be within the EXCO, this guy will give the green-light or absolute negative to all stuff.....and it is this person who we will all listen to......by listening i mean do whatever this guy says fist, question his decision only after the task has been completed....also when he gives an order, dont question it, dont counter-mand it.....

next, u guys lose sight of your objectives easily....
(i.e. Kher Meng promising me to help me settle the e-mail problem)
things u have already commit to do or promised to do for some one else should be marked as "red-balls"......and to be done at the very first opportunity.....

i also feel that the entire unit is taking a too relaxed approach to things......yes its ok to relax...but some stuff must be completed with utmost importance....and this "red-balled" tasked must be top priority on all u guys list...an excellent example would be the campfire....

i should also say this.....Venture is not a place u come to de-stress....
(i.e. Navjoth screaming at the scouts)
neither is it a place to fool around, u guys should consider whatever we are doing here in the unit as important work.....not some half-ass jobs....

Venturing is not a place u come to jus cos u have no where else to go in order to extent your scouting career or becos u jus wanna be with your frens....it should be about enjoying yourself and at the same time commit yourself to a lifelong hobby......most importantly u should not place your personal life above Venture if not u will lost sight of your Venturing objectives......

i think an idea priority list should be as follows:
1.Schooling
2.Work(for those applicable)
3.Scouting/Venturing/ Rovering
4.Personal life

what i think is a problem here is always communication......u guys want e-mailing as a medium of communication, so for it to be effective u guys must all either check your mail-boxes everyday......or set a certain time periods for everyone to check mail-boxes at the same time.....

the thing here is this...no one is taking to each other.....and when we say we get together to solve problems...no one is listening.......

also remember Venturing is also about learning, learning is where u step out of your own comfort zone and pick up new skills. once u say:'i dont want' or 'it cannot be done' then its all over.... u'll nver accomplish whatever u set out to complete, dont think that jus becos u are of a lower educational level u wont be able to do things....
(i.e. wei long says he frm normal tech cant write up proposal)
jus give it a shot first, and hey if u fail, yes we will screw u and our words can and will be harsh but thats cos we want u to improve...thats why we frens are there for right??? to pick u up again once u have fallen so that u can try and try again.......and if u really put in good effort we can really see it......or else u can screw the person who totally ignores all your good work.....

good times and bad times we have been through together.....however it pains me now to say goodbye to u guys becos i could no longer carry on...... u may think of me as a lesser man but i no longer care....ive doing what i was asked to do and at times went the extra mile....again...and again...but this time its 1 mile too long and im tired of it all.....

the memories of serving with u guys will forever remain within my heart and my mind....till the day i snuff it......

wish the new Chairman is able to carry on from where i left off and once again bring Manjusri Red Fox Ventures to new and greater heights.......its a shame i'll would no longer be there to see it happen.......as for me, ive withdrawn frm my Chairman position and hence forfeited my chance to be in the EXCO.....

Remember for Manjusri Red Fox we give everything, but we only take back Memories.....

Venture Chairman,
EXCO '07,
Ho Fu Lin Eddie
Signing off,Over and out....
Pioneering

Recently Venutres and Scouts had an amazing pioneering project headed by our lovely VSL Raymond sir

the project was intended to run for approx 12 hours, it started off with all scouts and ventures arriving in Manjusri Secondary School at 8 am on 17th March '07 with a few exceptionally late ventures..

we started off under the hot and unforgiving sun which burnt our skin, however we did manage to complete approx 60-75% of the structure by the end of the day.

all of us headed home exhausted and scarred with sun-burns on our pale, soft, unprotected skin...

it was really tiring for us watery-eyed, pale skinned, 50% computer geeks who had lost contact with our wilder side.....

our work resumed on 19th March '07, with frequent rain over the Sunday weekend the structure needs alot of reinforcing and lots of new ropes were needed....

as we worked lots of Manjusrians gaze in wonder as to what on Earth are we doing and wondered if we were crazy to do such an enormous feat...

in the end we proved them wrong that we Manjusri Red Fox Scouts is truly capable of accomplishing a Feat i believed never tried before, by 5pm on 19th the structure was up with a Manjusri Red Fox Scouts Flag flying high at the mast atop of the tower....

21st March '07 was the dreaded and much awaited VIP visit..

again we ventures arrived early to do a few last minute reinforcement to the structure which had withstood yet another storm....

the VIP visit went smoothly and i think they were impressed by the tower that we had managed to build......

the entire VIP fiesta ended at approx 5pm and our VSL Raymond Sir gave us a dinner treat....

the structure was left to stand for another 2 days where it weathered its last few rain storms....

on 23rd March '07 we were ordered to bring it down....

we all did it with heavy hearts, all wishing to be able to let it stand for eternity....

we knew we were writing history....Manjusri Red Fox Scouts history that is....

somewhere in our heart keep telling us that never again will we able to achieve such a magnificent feat again.....some part of us is still not willing to let the tower go....

however all things good or bad must come to an end.... with a pang of regret within our hearts we started to pick apart the tower.......every creak the ropes made was as if the tower was screaming in protest... screaming not to be taken apart......

at end of the day all that remains for the tower was pioneering poles, ropes and photos of it....

the memory of the tower will remain forever within each of us who participated in its birth and its ultimate destruction.....like our scouting light it will be forever with us till the day we snuff it....

For Red Fox we give everything, but we only take back Memories.....

cheers,
RE: EXCO MATTERS

"Blamestorming" as I would call it is definitely not an effective way in solving such disputes. The so-called failure of what you guys faced is also what happened when ventures start out. Coordination is real bad then. It was worse. Imagine 2 ventures attended a rock-climbing session.

Don't blame it all on one person. That's because everyone has a part to play. The Venture Unit is not like the other UG in the past. There's little bureaucracy and more democracy here. Thus it needs everyone's involvement in planning, executing and evaluating. However, more discipline, commitment and co-operation is required from every single individual. Talk is bullshit, do it to prove. If you guys can't even do such a simple task, then you people are not fit to be called the EXCO. Remember, the EXCO / unit is not one man show. If you guys want to expect an exciting and fun experience in venturing then you guys have to contribute your share to make that happen. If you think venturing is boring , that only proves to show that the planning sucks and it finally points back at you, the EXCO as a whole. Hope you guys wake up your idea from now onwards. I know all of you are studying, but since you are part of the unit then you have to be involved as far as possible.
<span style="font-family:trebuchet type='text'>Disappointed

hi guys,

there were 2 recent event of importance that im very disappointed by the Ventures performance...

they are the Investiture and tomorrow's Founder's Day Ceremony....

at the investiture ceremony onli 1 senior venture and 2 ventures turned up for the ceremony.....this shuld not be the kind of example we would want to show the scouts or the new ventures.

i admit i did sent out the information late...but this was due to me receiving the information late....furthermore this shuld be handled by the events coordinator.

as for tml's Founders Day Ceremony it after sch frm 2-3 pm.....

again i sent out the info late so i also received some last minute withdrawal and not-able-to-make-it e-mail.........

but there are also replies that some of us forgot tml is Founder's Day....... this is absolutely disgraceful.....

u guys are supposed to be young adults.....making decisions on your own...making certain sacrifices to help out in the overall Venture Scout Group........

i admit the e-mail i sent is very very very very late.....but pls make some sacrifices to come down.......i purposely DID NOT CC that e-mail or any e-mail for that matter to Raymond Sir becos i treat u guys like adults that u guys shuld be and make certain little sacrifices to turn up...

but so far onli me the Chairman and my Vice-Chairman will be there tml.............u guys make my life difficult.........i try to help u guys out yet u screw up my life...........i seriously dun know wat u guys want me to do...........

so for the next meeting onwards ill not impose any limitations on any of u guys....u feel like comming u come..........else ill jus keep quiteand let the EXCO handle it.....and if its the EXCO that does nothing.....then u leave me with no choice but to let Raymond Sir handle it

in the future i'll try my level best to accquire information as early as possible(this shuld be Events Coordinator's job btw) and let u guys know ASAP...

Regards,
Ho Fu Unfortunately, i was seated in the first boat with the scouts but not with the ventures. The boat startled a while upon approaching the landing bay. As the boat stablised itself, everyone was getting ready to embarked on a new journey. Hubert and Wei long went to find a van to see if we could use it to get to our destination. ( I wondered if i remebered correctly but i know they went off first) They came back soon after we revitalised ourselves. We paced step by step through the thick canopy of the forest. Numerous Mosquitoes ambushed us on the way to the area. Poor people that had push the jellycans to the area, i admit it is very tiring doing so.
Finally, we have encountered the resting place. I was quite elated at the place as we have a sea-view and a forest-view, a materialistic person would have similar "thoughts" too.( I am being sarcastic to materialistic person here) We have 3 rooms to ourselves but 1 was to used for store room and the other was in bad condition. We went off to prepare the following games that were planned long ago. We have a electric fence which was made using strings making it difficult for the scouts to cross over it. The main purpose of this is to introduce teamwork to each patrol, allowing them to understand one another better. Next we have the army rope which a rope that was tied to a tree whereby the scouts have to climb and touch the end of the rope. This is to test the physical strength and the technique of climbing such rope. Last, we have the leopard crawl which is designed on a muddy area which too disgusting to describe it. The scouts have to crawl across this puddle of mud blindfolded and the main purpose of it is to trust their patrol mates when it comes to such situation.

End Of part 2

Michael

Pulau Ubin

Since i have not been doing much, i decide to contribute by blogging this in. Pretty funny i'll say before this actually happen. Planning have to come first right. Toh Wee and Eddie were planning and all of sudden the day before Eddie Got FITS! Haha.. all of the sudden huge responsiblity falls to me....(Actually i do not know why) Still I did my best by retriving certain important information of the plans by Eddie and started to investigate the parts. Toh Wee trusted us and let us plan the activities for him. Ah trust what a word.

Here comes that day, the day we set off so near... so near.. it is. My mind filled with anxiety and stress hoping that the activities will work. We cleared the items that we needed to use and here it began. I lifted my massive leg off the ground and took the very first step up the bus." Doom, i said, Doom" I took hold of the railing by the side and lift myself with hope and light.( Don mind my way of expressing myself) I paced step by step with a constant worry that whizzed pass my mind and there, i took a sit. I let my eyelids fall to my eyebags and "poof" i went to lalaland. "Bang"(I know what you are thinking but no) I hit the window glass and i woke up. Oh! Scouts are singing some songs (Usual Stuff..you will get bored doing so sometimes) A drop of water paste itself on the glass, i placed my hand on the glass. Is it my lalaland's effects? Drops came one after another. Darn! Rain! What rotten luck we have...Argh! We have reached and i came down the bus. We dashed out to cover while some of us help out by taking out the jellycans( I hope i spell correct)

End Of Part 1

Michael

Sharing session 4 Mar 2006

I was thinking whether to post this anot...

Today's meeting is a classic example of the serious repercussions of what I call "too little activities chasing too much time" or in another words, a serious activity shortage (an economic-like explanation). As a result, the attendance was about 50% and the meeting was just a TALKING CRAP session, (i.e. talking about the NYP thingy which is absolutely out of point).

What we did was mainly discussing about the activities we could propose in the future and how to make the activities MORE interesting. There are some activities raised such as Sentosa, bowling, Swimming, Ice-skating, "Laser-Quest", Archery, Wakeboarding, Kayaking, Hiking, backwoodman's cooking, natural wall rock climbing, PT session and more... All these activities are each taken care of by an in-charge to go recce or research whatever stuff they require and they'll be presenting that on the next EXCO meeting on 25 MARCH 2006. We've also discussed about the job week thing. Some of us suggested to wash car and sell goodies in MJR next week.

We had a 15 min interval for discussing somemore crap. I'm so sleepy.

Talk somemore and at around 11am ++ . Meeting ended and most of us went to play basketball.(perhaps that was the most interesting part of today's activity although we'll lost to thos NCC slackers.)
After that went to eat herbal chicken bef going home and ponning my lecture @ SAFRA Yishun haha.

Ok that's it enuff of all that skeptism in the writing but I seriously think that the EXCO should look into this issue on activities shortage critically asap!! lol

Venture Investiture

18 FeB o6...

Venture investiture.. meeting time.. : 8.00am, latest 830am..

scouts reached at 8.00 am and most of the ventures reached at 830am..

went to the hall and the set up is done.. had the flag raising.. and than followed by rehearsal of the investiture.. everything was smoothly done.. and had a 10min break.. later on was the Venture Investiture of year 2006! So as you can guess, venturing was totally a fresh new thing for me. But it wasn't bad at all. There were times where things do get out of hand like what happened during our major activities last year. Strangely and luckily, we always can resolve them within the shortest period of time and the tightest of a situation. I think it always does because of a special bonding that is among the dedicated ventures. I believe that there's no organization that can offer me the most honourable relationship that I can get from the Red Fox. I was once a girl guide. And now I'm part of the scout movement. Never had i wandered away from all the excitment and joy that is constantly available in the organization. All the night cycling ( a pity i din attend it), rock climbing, canoeing and all the other activities are so bursting with fun. I guess its because of the company we have that makes every thing we do doubly enjoyable. We learn a lot of life experiences as well. Really, its never a regret for me since the day i became a venture. And i hope that after we have continued with our path, we will still remain as part of Red Fox Ventures. The blood still flows in our body.

vivien
www.princess-vivien.blogspot.com

2005 - My Venturing journey in 800 words

In a blink of an eye, it's time to say goodbye to 200five. But before we move on to an exciting new year, let us reflect and recall all the fun we had in 2005.

DEC 2004: We came and promised to start a grouping, an association that live to serve, to enjoy and to develop holistically. We planned, executed and now evaluate and reflect.

JAN 2005: Our first task in hand-- CCA Orientation. We came back, brainstormed and help to promote scouting among the new interns of the school. It was a competition between the other CCA groups to fight to get the best cohort they can ever recruit. It was tough and we managed to got ours. (new scouts) But that was just the beginning. =)

FEB 2005: Alas, we were invested officially as the first batch of ventures in Manjusri History. Honoured and proud were we, we pledged to bring scouting to a new level. Some got to wear the full uniform for the first time. Everyone was just fascinated. Later in FEB, we celebrated Founder's Day with the million others around the globe. Feel honoured to be part of this near century-old tradition.

MAR 2005: Our first ever fund raising project- manual car wash donation drive. We were supposed to clean the teachers' cars in school. An entirely new thing that was introduced in Mjr. Although it was the first time, we raised quite a bit of money. Hope we can get better support from the teachers 2006.. The next day, we went knocking on people's door for "room service" (lol what am i saying) actually we are asking for any job to do...(for job week)

APR 2005: VENTURE LEADERSHIP COURSE (VLC) which only 4 of us attended was a very intriguing and enriching. We learnt more on how the EXCo manages the unit and about the roles of each member in the EXCO. We also formed EXCos and planned, execute a project at district level. (I think this course is abit screwed up - not on our part) In general it was fun but mentally torturing, it was a course that all ventures should attend. Demanding but a good experience for me though, making new friends and learning new style of leadership, games.

JUN 2005: Annual Training Camp (for scouts) We were called down to help conduct some games& activities for the scouts. The games that we planned (frankly speaking) were 'fun' for us not the scouts and I feel that better games should be implemented during the next training camp. Unfortunately due to some last minute matters (not worth mentioning), some activities did not went smoothly. We stayed up late at night to paint the backdrop and did some prep. stuff for the coming campfire.

JUL 2005: Yay, finally the event of the year-- Scout and guides combined campfire 2005. A well-planned one compared to the camp. I still remember everyone of us hastily trying to meet targets and deadlines as well as to endure the scorching sun and some irritating unco-operative people. I would say all of us displayed good leadership, endurance, initiative and team spirit to the very last minute. Seeing the results of our labour was pleasant to the eue and soul. Everything was almost ready and what was left was the grand show. 1830: The dark blue cloudy sky was smiling at us-- the whole event was at the mercy of the weather. It wasn't good then with dense clouds hovering above us. It was lucky (since we placed chilli all over the campfire circle) No Rain, no vain... The programme ran according to plan but it was a little too abrupt earlier than expected. Some groups did not turn up at the last minute. Never mind lesson learnt. Nevertheless the campfire was a SUCCESS!!! Excellent work guys and gals!! (no pic sorry)

AUG 2005: Arrr... the first outdoor activity organised by our SL Song Wei Sir and VSL Raymond sir at Dairy Farm (Bt Timah S'pore) It was my 1st time climbing a natural cliff and rock climbing is never my specialty. >> It was a hot and breezy day - good day to climb. We prepared ourselves and shortly we began climbing. Not much of a problem at beginning but at midpoint, fatigue sets in. Because of all the stretching of your muscles and all that awkward stances...climbed on. Now I reached the final phase -you are on your own now. Physically worn, wobbling feet, slippery and jittery hands made it even tougher for further climbing. (plus a manoeure is needed to climb on the cliff-like top ) And finally i conquered the top after more than half an hour of torment. After I was belayed down, we moved to abseiling, down a wall of 8 storeys high. Agrophobia? Anyway it was fun.

OCT & NOV 2005: (Preparing for my promo exams- study break- no activity)

DEC 2005: 2005 EXCo disbanded. 2006 EXCO elected headed by me again (some ppl not happy i noe ok)

Hope that the new Blood of everlasting enthusiastic spirit can keep the scouting flame burning; igniting the scouting spirit to a higher level.

Embrace yourself in the essence of scouting, physically, mentally, socially and spiritually.
Be Prepared and Look Wide

(That's my 2005 venturing experience what's yours?)

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://redfoxventures.blogspot.com/2005/12/2005-my-venturing-journey-in-800-words.html' title='2005 -
