Parting Shot frm ur VentureChair...

memories of my Scouting and Venturing life flashes pass me as im typing this....

it does pain me to leave u guys...yet it pains me more to stay....

no one wants to be told the whole entire truth....why??? cos the real truth will hurt much more that the lies.....

this is especially between good frens....it could easily ruin friendships...

but the time of my parting with the Venture EXCO has come...i shall no longer feed u guys the lies ive been feeding u anymore...its time to come clean....

like i said before the entire EXCO lacks situation awareness....
(i.e. Shing Chen/Michael/Jia Rui)
meaning do keep yourself updated on what is going on how things are progressing with all the EXCO members even if u are not partaking in it.....

furthermore there is a lack of an alpha-personality guy within the unit......this person DO NOT have to be within the EXCO, this guy will give the green-light or absolute negative to all stuff.....and it is this person who we will all listen to......by listening i mean do whatever this guy says fist, question his decision only after the task has been completed....also when he gives an order, dont question it, dont counter-mand it.....

next, u guys lose sight of your objectives easily....
(i.e. Kher Meng promising me to help me settle the e-mail problem)
things u have already commit to do or promised to do for some one else should be marked as "red-balls"......and to be done at the very first opportunity.....

i also feel that the entire unit is taking a too relaxed approach to things......yes its ok to relax...but some stuff must be completed with utmost importance....and this "red-balled" tasked must be top priority on all u guys list...an excellent example would be the campfire....

i should also say this.....Venture is not a place u come to de-stress....
(i.e. Navjoth screaming at the scouts)
neither is it a place to fool around, u guys should consider whatever we are doing here in the unit as important work.....not some half-ass jobs....

Venturing is not a place u come to jus cos u have no where else to go in order to extent your scouting career or becos u jus wanna be with your frens....it should be about enjoying yourself and at the same time commit yourself to a lifelong hobby......most importantly u should not place your personal life above Venture if not u will lost sight of your Venturing objectives......

i think an idea priority list should be as follows:
1.Schooling
2.Work(for those applicable)
3.Scouting/Venturing/ Rovering
4.Personal life

what i think is a problem here is always communication......u guys want e-mailing as a medium of communication, so for it to be effective u guys must all either check your mail-boxes everyday......or set a certain time periods for everyone to check mail-boxes at the same time.....

the thing here is this...no one is taking to each other.....and when we say we get together to solve problems...no one is listening.......

also remember Venturing is also about learning, learning is where u step out of your own comfort zone and pick up new skills. once u say:'i dont want' or 'it cannot be done' then its all over.... u'll nver accomplish whatever u set out to complete, dont think that jus becos u are of a lower educational level u wont be able to do things....
(i.e. wei long says he frm normal tech cant write up proposal)
jus give it a shot first, and hey if u fail, yes we will screw u and our words can and will be harsh but thats cos we want u to improve...thats why we frens are there for right??? to pick u up again once u have fallen so that u can try and try again.......and if u really put in good effort we can really see it......or else u can screw the person who totally ignores all your good work.....

good times and bad times we have been through together.....however it pains me now to say goodbye to u guys becos i could no longer carry on...... u may think of me as a lesser man but i no longer care....ive doing what i was asked to do and at times went the extra mile....again...and again...but this time its 1 mile too long and im tired of it all.....

the memories of serving with u guys will forever remain within my heart and my mind....till the day i snuff it......

wish the new Chairman is able to carry on from where i left off and once again bring Manjusri Red Fox Ventures to new and greater heights.......its a shame i'll would no longer be there to see it happen.......as for me, ive withdrawn frm my Chairman position and hence forfeited my chance to be in the EXCO.....

Remember for Manjusri Red Fox we give everything, but we only take back Memories.....

Pioneering

Recently Venutres and Scouts had an amazing pioneering project headed by our lovely VSL Raymond sir

the project was intended to run for approx 12 hours, it started off with all scouts and ventures arriving in Manjusri Secondary School at 8 am on 17th March '07 with a few exceptionally late ventures..

we started off under the hot and unforgiving sun which burnt our skin, however we did manage to complete approx 60-75% of the structure by the end of the day.

all of us headed home exhausted and scarred with sun-burns on our pale, soft, unprotected skin...

it was really tiring for us watery-eyed, pale skinned, 50% computer geeks who had lost contact with our wilder side.....

our work resumed on 19th March '07, with frequent rain over the Sunday weekend the structure needs alot of reinforcing and lots of new ropes were needed....

as we worked lots of Manjusrians gaze in wonder as to what on Earth are we doing and wondered if we were crazy to do such an enormous feat...

in the end we proved them wrong that we Manjusri Red Fox Scouts is truly capable of accomplishing a Feat i believed never tried before, by 5pm on 19th the structure was up with a Manjusri Red Fox Scouts Flag flying high at the mast atop of the tower....

21st March '07 was the dreaded and much awaited VIP visit..

again we ventures arrived early to do a few last minute reinforcement to the structure which had withstood yet another storm....

the VIP visit went smoothly and i think they were impressed by the tower that we had managed to build......

the entire VIP fiesta ended at approx 5pm and our VSL Raymond Sir gave us a dinner treat....

the structure was left to stand for another 2 days where it weathered its last few rain storms....

on 23rd March '07 we were ordered to bring it down....

we all did it with heavy hearts, all wishing to be able to let it stand for eternity....

we knew we were writing history....Manjusri Red Fox Scouts history that is....

somewhere in our heart keep telling us that never again will we able to achieve such a magnificent feat again.....some part of us is still not willing to let the tower go....

however all things good or bad must come to an end.... with a pang of regret within our hearts we started to pick apart the tower.......every creak the ropes made was as if the tower was screaming in protest... screaming not to be taken apart......

at end of the day all that remains for the tower was pioneering poles, ropes and photos of it....

the memory of the tower will remain forever within each of us who participated in its birth and its ultimate destruction.....like our scouting light it will be forever with us till the day we snuff it....

For Red Fox we give everything, but we only take back Memories.....

cheers,
Eddie

RE: EXCO MATTERS

"Blamestorming" as I would call it is definitely not an effective way in solving such disputes. The so-called failure of what you guys faced is also what happened when ventures start out. Coordination is real bad then. It was worse. Imagine 2 ventures attended a rock-climbing session.

Don't blame it all on one person. That's because everyone has a part to play. The Venture Unit is not like the other UG in the past. There's little bureaucracy and more democracy here. Thus it needs everyone's involvement in planning, executing and evaluating. However, more discipline, commitment and co-operation is required from every single individual. Talk is bullshit, do it to prove. If you guys can't even do such a simple task, then you people are not fit to be called the EXCO. Remember, the EXCO / unit is not one man show. If you guys want to expect an exciting and fun experience in venturing then you guys have to contribute your share to make that happen. If you think venturing is boring , that only proves to show that the planning sucks and it finally points back at you, the EXCO as a whole. Hope you guys wake up your idea from now onwards. I know all of you are studying, but since you are part of the unit then you have to be involved as far as possible.

Disappointed

hi guys,

there were 2 recent event of importance that im very disappointed by the Ventures performance...

they are the Investiture and tomorrow's Founder's Day Ceremony....

at the investiture ceremony onli 1 senior venture and 2 ventures turned up for the ceremony.....this shuld not be the kind of example we would want to show the scouts or the new ventures.

i admit i did sent out the information late...but this was due to me receiving the information late....furthermore this shuld be handled by the events coordinator.

as for tml's Founders Day Ceremony it after sch frm 2-3 pm.....

again i sent out the info late so i also received some last minute withdrawal and not-able-to-make-it e-mail.........

but there are also replies that some of us forgot tml is Founder's Day....... this is absolutely disgraceful.....

u guys are supposed to be young adults.....making decisions on your own...making certain sacrifices to help out in the overall Venture Scout Group........

i admit the e-mail i sent is very very very very late.....but pls make some sacrifices to come down.......i purposely DID NOT CC that e-mail or any e-mail for that matter to Raymond Sir becos i treat u guys like adults that u guys shuld be and make certain little sacrifices to turn up...

but so far onli me the Chairman and my Vice-Chairman will be there tml.............u guys make my life difficult.........i try to help u guys out yet u screw up my life...........i seriously dun know wat u guys want me to do...........

so for the next meeting onwards ill not impose any limitations on any of u guys....u feel like comming u come..........else ill jus keep quiteand let the EXCO handle it.....and if its the EXCO that does nothing.....then u leave me with no choice but to let Raymond Sir handle it

in the future i'll try my level best to accquire information as early as possible(this shuld be Events Coordinator's job btw) and let u guys know ASAP...

Regards,
Ho Fu Lin Eddie
